We got a call about a cat stuck behind a water heater in Keramies, across from Keramies High School, in a house we’ve been to many times, because they had their animals in terrible conditions. They had left their house to move somewhere else and left the cats they had to be fed by the neighborhood. Despite the fact that they saw that the cat was trapped, they didn’t do anything to help him.
Not knowing what to expect we went there and found an adult cat stuck with its head in the opening of an old water boiler that was thrown away. The opening was big enough to put its head into the boiler, but not big enough to pull it out due to the physiology of the ears. He must have followed a mouse or lizard or something else. Luckily Marina had some oil in her car (unfortunately it is not the first time we have encountered this problem) which we used to make the opening slippery. Luckily, there were no sharp edges. Slowly, after removing some ticks, with help from the oil, we could pull him out. He was quite disoriented. Logical, considering it was pitchblack in there. The fur around his neck was quite affected. He must have been stuck there for 2 or 3 days. To make sure it won’t happen again, we put the boiler upside down. We thank Ioulia Kokkosi who notified us directly when she heard about it. Also, many thanks to the volunteers from ARK Chris Howcroft and Joyce Broekman.
After a successful rescue we feel very happy, because we did it. We ask everyone not to throw away objects that have holes in which animals can be trapped.
